Haydn Piano Sonata 40.2 Presto (Classical Music for Tablet Series)

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818283 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Franz Joseph Haydn. Arranged by edited by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Classical. Score. 14 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #4967139. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818283). Piano Sonata 40.2 Presto (Classical Music for Tablet Series) Franz Joseph Haydn was born in 1732 in a small village in Austria, near the Hungarian border. ♫ His father was a wheelwright and a leader of the town. His mother had been a cook in the palace of a Count. His father had taught himself to play the harp. His family was musical and often sang together (16 brothers and sisters). His father saw that he was extremely musical and that he couldn’t get the education he needed in his little village. When he was 6 years old, he was sent to the home of a relative about 7 miles away to study to be a musician. He never lived with his parents again. ♫ In 1752 he was employed by Count Karl Joseph Morzin, leading the Count’s small orchestra and writing the first of his symphonies. ♫ In 1760 he married Maria Keller. They had a very unhappy marriage, producing no children. ♫ In 1760 Count Paul Andre Esterhazy (one of the wealthiest and most important nobles in the Austrian empire) hired him as assistant director of music. In 1766 at the age of 34, Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy appointed Haydn his Director of Music. His job was divided between the Esterhazy palace in Austria their palace across the border Hungary. ♫ Haydn dedicated Piano Sonata 40 to Princess Marie Esterhazy. He worked for the Esterhazys for the next 28 years, writing hundreds of pieces of music for the prince. After about 15 years, he signed a new contract allowing him to write music for other customers. Haydn’s reputation grew to international fame. ♫ Haydn wrote 104 Symphonies. (Some count 107.) Not unlike George Washington, nicknamed the “Father of our Country”, yet had no children, Haydn is known as the “Father of the Symphony.” and the “Father of the string Quartet.” ♫ Napoleon captured Vienna in 1809. Napoleon, himself, ordered an honor guard be placed at Haydn’s home where Haydn lay dying. ♫ The Classical Music for Tablet Series offers piano masterworks by classical composers formatted to be read on 10 inch tablets. I use an Amazon Kindle with Mobile Sheets Pro and an Air Turn blue tooth foot pedal to practice and perform piano music. Similar products available to provide other tablets the same functionality. ♫ The pieces in this series have not been arranged, but most have been edited slightly, and have been formatted to fit this screen size. For example, in the tablet versions, first and second endings are often removed and the repeated measures and endings written into the music so the performer can avoid having to go back to previous pages. These kinds of section repeats were invented to spare the composer’s time and the cost of extra paper and ink. But with a tablet the cost of paper and ink is irrelevant. ♫ Although there are a lot more page turns with a 10 inch screen compared with letter size pages, the readability of the music (due to the backlighting on the tablet) and the portability of the music (travelling with a small tablet instead of oversized books or portfolios of sheet music) easily makes up for the extra page turns. ♫ Your purchase provides one .pdf file that contains both the tablet edition and the letter size page (printable) version. There are several programs available online that will allow you to separate this .pdf file into 2 .pdf files to make it more useful.

This 4-movement piano sonata combines the use of jazz harmony and form with that of the classical world in a new and exciting way! The nickname Improviso is given to indicate how the piece sounds improvised - kind of like an impromptu, but with four movements. This piece includes 12-bar blues, ballad, waltz - really a little of everything! The final movement requires the use of all three piano pedals - sustaining, sostenuto, and una corda - for a great climax and effect!Piano Sonata in C Minor “Improviso”I. Freely-Upbeat GrooveII. Piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q19871 (Rue du Sentier, 1778). Composed by Benjamin Schweitzer. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 5 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q19871. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q19871). The title may be read as an indication of the key and genre, on the one hand, but also as an allusion to a slightly depressive mood, on the other hand. Mozart's Piano Sonata in A minor which may have been created in the Parisian street mentioned in the subtitle virtually serves as background for this little, yet somewhat tricky piano piece. There are no direct quotations, but the dissonant chord from bar 2 of the sonata in A minor hovers in the background. Mosaic-like, slightly dabbed sound elements are regularly interrupted by brief, strong beats. Ambitious performers who want to explore new playing techniques will enjoy this piece as much as the audience.

Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.518941 Composed by Han-Ki Kim. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Traditional. 44 pages. Han-Ki Kim #129613. Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.518941). Violin Sonata No. 3 “Korean Beauty” Op.289 Sonata No. 3 is a music composed of Korean folk songs, nursery rhymes, and rhythms. The 1st movement was composed in a traditional sonata form with two opposing themes following a short introduction, “Jindo Arirang” and the rhythms of “Semachi” were cited. In the 2nd movement, the lyrical beauty is expressed using the theme of “Arirang,” which is the most representative Korean folk song and is well known worldwide. And for 3rd movement, the Korean nursery rhyme “Eolle Kollery” is cited, which is based on a four-time system, is used to express a humorous atmosphere. For reference, “Eollekoleri” is a language used by children to make fun of others. The last 4th movements are in the rondo form of ABACAD, and between the A and A subjects, three different folk songs, “Miryang Arirang”, Cheonan Samgeori(Three-way Intersection), and “Saeya Saeya Palangsaeya”(Blue Bird) are cited, and at the same time, the Korean rhythms “Kutkori” and “Jajinmori” and Semachi were comprehensively cited. Due to the characteristic of the 4th movement in which the theme is used in layers, it was given the nickname “Korean Folk Song Sandwich”. This Sonata No. 3 was selected as a designated piece in the first final competition to commemorate the late Kwon Hyuk-ju, and was premiered worldwide by 5 finalists. Attached music file is 2,4movement just for a reference.

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.985325 Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. Contemporary. Individual part. 9 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #6012233. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.985325). Guitar Sonata No. 5 in G major is open G tuning. It is in three movements and performance time is abut 10 to 10:15. Movements 1 and 3 are to be played using a glass or bronze slide worn on the fourth finger. The movements are:1. Hobo Spider Blues2. Ragged) and Sor(e) (after Sor's Op. 29, 10)3. Ricardo de YakimaThe first movement is a set of bottleneck technique variations on an original blues theme. Each variation explores different timbrel possibilities such as ordinary tone, pizzicato, sul tasto, and ponticello before recapitulating the original form of the blues theme. The second movement reconceives Sor's study in E flat from his Op. 29 as a ragtime sonata form, with a developmental intrusion from another Sor etude. This ragtime sonata leads attaca into the final movement. The third movement is another set of variations, this time on a two-step dance theme cast in the form of a menuet. It was common in early 19th century guitar sonatas to end with a menuet and so I opted to end with a menuet with variations. In sharp contrast to my first guitar sonata, which drew inspiration from late Beethoven piano sonatas and late Shostakovich string quartets, the inspirations here were Muddy Waters, Fernando Sor, Scott Joplin, Johnny Cash, and Don Helms. This sonata was also recorded by Daniel Estrem on Estrem Plays Lawson, which was released through Magnatune in 2016. .

Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533318 Composed by Jacques Leguerney. 20th Century,Concert,Standards. 71 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2343095. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533318). Première Sonate pour piano et violonI. ModéréII. Assez lentIII. AniméIV. Bien allant, mais d'expression tranquilleJacques Leguerney began the composition of his First Sonata for Piano and Violin in 1926, shortly after beginning composition studies with Nadia Boulanger. She was reportedly quite enthusiastic about the natural talent of her new student, and offered to give him private lessons to supplement her analysis classes. Leguerney was already reticent about studying composition. In an interview in 1989, he remembered his feeling at that time, saying that I found that this was useless work. If one is gifted for music, one is capable of writing harmonies. instead, Leguerney showed his Sonata to the French composer Albert Roussel, who was renting an apartment on Avenue Wagram in a building next to that of the Leguerney family. Leguerneyremembered Roussel's apartment with its dark blue walls and gilded Indian statues! Roussel encouraged his efforts and said of the second theme of the first movement: I would have liked to have written that. (J'aurais été très content d'avoir écrit ça.)The first performance of the Sonata was given by the pianist Thérèse Cahen (1897-1944) and the violinist Hortense de Sampigny (? – 1970) in a private concert. The violinist was already a well-known concert artist. De Sampigny finished her studies at the Paris Conservatory in 1915, where she was in the class of Jules Boucherit. In 1918 she married the French author Auguste Bailly (1878-1967). From 1921, she was a member of the Trio Trillat, founded by the pianist Ennemond Trillat with the collaboration of cellist Jean Witkowski. The Trio was active in concerts and recordings in France and abroad for about thirty years. De Sampigny later taught at the Conservatory as assistant to René Benedetti. Thérèse Cahen had studied piano, harmony and counterpoint at the Schola Cantorum, where she obtained a Second Prize. She was a faithful friend and muse for Leguerney, and recruited many musicians for first performances of his vocal and chamber works. She was deported to Auschwitz on July 31, 1944, a few weeks before the Liberation of Paris. This edition of the Sonata was performed at a private concert in Vernon (France) in July 2011 by French violinist Marion Larigaudrie and pianist Mary Dibbern. It is based upon the autograph manuscript OL 23, on deposit at the Music Department of the Bibliothèque national in Paris.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972647 Composed by James Siddons. Arranged by James Siddons Music and Writings. 20th Century,Blues,Concert,Jazz,Spiritual. Score. 12 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #4350581. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972647). About the Sonata Hymnica Series Program Note Composer James Siddons draws on the ethos of American rural hymns and spirituals to create evocations of the deeper, larger meaning of familiar church melodies. These sonatas for piano solo explore these deeper meanings in a variety of contemporary musical influences, while keeping in mind the acoustics of small rural churches of the late nineteenth century, with wooden floors and walls, high ceilings, and dimensions determined by local builders who knew how to shape a room for excellent acoustics in an age of no electricity and no microphones. These sonatas are but partly about the specific melodies and words, and mostly about their meaning in spiritual contemplation . . . and the piano, resonating, reverberant, sometimes whispering---as a sacred harp. Although these sonatas have no specific titles, the first sonata may be thought of as the Prayer Sonata, the second as the Travel Sonata, as in a spiritual journey, and the third sonata is about our greatest fear, that of being alone and without God. Sonata Hymnica No. 3 draws on two melodies from the African-American experience. One, Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord)? was first published in 1899 in W. E. Barton’s Old Plantation Hymns but existed earlier as a folk hymn. It became the first spiritual to be included in a major hymnal, The Hymnal 1940 of the Episcopal Church in the U.S.A. Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child was sung by the Jubilee Singers of Fisk University from 1870 on, and was published in the Rev. Dr. Barton’s Old Plantation Hymns in 1899. Performance Note The pianist must keep in mind that these sonatas are about playing the piano as much as playing a composition. Musical effects characteristic of the piano and descriptive of the memory in American culture are the substances of these piano solos. Touch is important: in many places, several dynamics are called for on the same beat. Duration --- . Sonata Hymnica No. 3 --- 9 minutes. About the Composer Composer, musicologist, and pianist James Siddons studied composition with Dika Newlin, a protégé of Arnold Schoenberg, and electronic music with Merrill Ellis, founder of the electronic music program at the University of North Texas, where he also earned a PhD in musicology. After a year at the University of London, where he studied musical analysis at King’s College and electronic music at Goldsmiths’ College, Siddons spent two years in Japan as a research scholar at Tokyo University of Arts, participating in the Ethnomusicology Seminar of Fumio Koizumi. Siddons has also studied theology and liturgy at the Duke University Divinity School. In addition to books and articles on contemporary music and music in Japan, Siddons was written compositions in many genres. Recordings of his piano performances are available at online streaming services. His website is www.JamesSiddons.com His performing rights organization is ASCAP.

Clarinet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.836709 Composed by Brian Joyce. Contemporary. Score and part. 27 pages. Brian Joyce #3074129. Published by Brian Joyce (A0.836709). A piece shrouded in mystery and intrigue. For myself, I mean: I don’t even know what the title means, nor why this particular piece should wear it. The music and the title came as a package deal, falling on me out of the blue one day. It wasn’t on my to-do list, nor was I looking for extra work. But perhaps that’s the answer: the piece itself is the Agent, breaking into my nicely ordered studio and disrupting things for the next few months. I’ll have to think about this some more. But I digress. Whatever its meaning or provenance, it’s an odd little sonatina. For instance, at its heart the second movement is a traditional scherzo and trio, but it is as misshapen as anything H. P. Lovecraft himself might have envisioned. Even I am not sure where the beginnings and endings of the sections are without a score in hand. Mystery upon mystery. Another example: as I began to work on the third movement, I wasn’t sure if it would be a simple binary or ternary form, a rondo or a sonata-allegro. I never did find out, to be honest. All I know is that, to my ears, it sounds like what might have resulted if I had been asked to write the theme to The Simpsons. The audio sample will give you some idea of what I mean.More questions than answers.Performance time is a little under 14 minutes.

Written in six movements, this quartet has much to say.I - Church Bells are heard throughout in many keys. No matter where I go I can always hear them in the distanceII - This movement is untitled seeing as I didn't come up with a clever name for it. I wrote it on very cloudy day and that is all I can remember about it.III - Happy Times is a reduction of the same piece in my Piano Sonata: Blue. IV - Dance - This movement is a dance of death. It is very obvious that something has gone wrong and there is no chance of fixing it.V - Taking Turns - The title is self -explanatory. Originally this was going to be the beginning of a mini quartet but I decided against it. VI - Death March - This is a feeling I know all to well. It is held together by the canonical wandering melody that attempts to shine through the dark.

Da Dee gets its title onomatopoeically from the nursery rhyme-like quality of its opening measures. It is a playground taunt, a nursery rhyme - the Millennial Whoop in augmentation? The movement is in sonata form. II. Waiting for Sunrise emerged from a snippet of melody originally conceived for a solo bassoon piece. (It may show up in my Bassoon Sonata, in another form. I like to reuse and recycle). The way the movement unfolds was inspired perhaps by the grotto scene from Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe. III. Clown Car The movement opens with a Surprise! gesture - a sort of musical clowning around. The second theme is a mambo bass line accompanying a soaring and hopeful horn line. There is some blues too, before a contemplative coda brings all to a reassuring, if slightly melancholic, close.
